Panel Moderator

Panel moderators are experts in group process, not the content.  The key skills of a moderator are to know when to prompt and probe, manage the energy level of each participant "drawing out" the quieter ones, quickly establish a rapport with the panel of experts. Product knowledge is unnecessary and in many cases a disadvantage.

  • Lead groups in the discussion of their topic area
  • Gain an appropriate comfort level for drawing out information from panel members
  • Develop individualized introductory group ground rules & guidelines
  • Craft appropriate questions for gathering qualitative data
  • Build rapport in 10 seconds
  • Know how to probe for more than top of mind responses
  • Manage time during responses and keep the discussion flowing
  • Develop techniques to elicit respondent behavior beyond: "So, Mary, what do you think?"
Effectively and ethically moderate groups with their own customers and fellow employees
